Who Writes These Resolutions?
One of the more controversial resolutions sent to Synod meeting today in Grand Rapids Michigan calls on the UCC to support an AXIS OF FRIENDSHIP with Iran. This resolution was submitted before the election and courageous demonstrations for freedom. Last night the resolution presenter, Patricia DeJonge revealed that the resolution was written by the Oakland Islamic Cultural Center and “worked through” the supporting churches. She also revealed that an identical resolution is being submitted to the Disciples of Christ denomination and to several Universities as part of an AXIS OF FRIENDSHIP “movement.” Iowa delegate Phil Corr has submitted a support resolution for the Iranian people without political baggage.
